Install and build

What you need

  • ARM GNU Toolchain (arm-none-eabi-gcc) with newlib
  • dfu-util for flashing
  • The repository, with submodules

The macOS trap

Homebrew’s arm-none-eabi-gcc ships without newlib, and the build fails with:

stdint.h: No such file or directory

Install the official Arm GNU Toolchain instead, then point the build at it.

Point the build at your toolchain

config.mk sits next to the SDK, is gitignored because it is machine-specific, and is included automatically by every build:

rodeo-sdk/config.mk
GCC_PATH := /Applications/ArmGNUToolchain/14.3.rel1/arm-none-eabi/bin

First build

libDaisy and DaisySP are vendored as submodules and need building once:

Terminal window
git submodule update --init --recursive
cd rodeo-sdk
make deps # builds the libDaisy + DaisySP static libs

Then build an example. usb_device needs nothing but a Daisy Seed:

Terminal window
cd examples/usb_device
make # -> build/usb_device.{elf,bin,hex}

make all from rodeo-sdk/ builds every example.

Flashing

Put the Daisy in DFU mode — hold BOOT, tap RESET — then:

Terminal window
make program-dfu

Today that is the Seed’s own micro-USB, or SWD.

Flashing through the panel USB-C

On the Rev B boards the panel USB-C carries USB data as well as power, and the plan is to flash through it with the Daisy bootloader’s extdfu build, which takes DFU on the pins that reach the panel. The bootloader itself still goes in once over the Seed’s micro-USB. None of this is in the build yet, and it is checked on the first board before this page says otherwise.
